LOS ALAMITOS : 37 Part-Time Aides for District Face Ax

Share

Faced with proposed state funding cuts, the Los Alamitos Unified School District board has designated 37 part-time employees for potential layoffs in September.

The district board of trustees on Monday night approved the list of instructional and media center aides to be cut Sept. 10 if enough state funding does not come through.

“Each one of these is a person,” said board president Jeanne Flint. “It’s not something this board takes lightly. It’s a necessity because of economics.”

Most of the positions are funded through School Improvement Program (SIP) money from the state. The district received $433,000 in SIP money last year, but may lose the funding this year under proposed state cuts.
