Talking at Wimbledon Without Saying Much
I would like to congratulate NBC, the leader in mundane sports broadcasting, for sinking to a new low in their coverage of this year’s Wimbledon. Every year we have to put up with the constant barrage of meaningless facts by the talking heads, Collins and Enberg, while the points are being played. However, the clincher this year was listening to Enberg announce the results of the men’s semifinal matches during the ladies’ final before the matches were broadcast.
Then again, this was one of the few times that Enberg, the master of the obvious, has told the tennis viewing audience something they didn’t know about the matches.
All I can say about NBC’s Wimbledon coverage is, “Oh my!”
