IRVINE : Potential Candidates Begin Filing Process
Three residents picked up nomination papers Monday for the City Council and mayoral seats that will be chosen in the November election.
Monday was the beginning of the filing period for residents running for the two council seats and the mayor’s post on the Nov. 3 ballot. Candidates have until Aug. 7 to return nomination papers, although the deadline is automatically extended until Aug. 12 if an incumbent does not file for reelection.
Picking up papers Monday to run for City Council were Councilwoman Paula Werner, 44, and George A. Gallaher. Taking out papers to run for mayor was Anthony G. Radovcich, 51.
Radovcich took out papers to run for mayor in 1988 but did not return them.
Potential candidates for council and mayor must return nominating papers signed by 20 to 30 registered Irvine voters and fill out a statement of economic interest. Candidates may also write a statement of qualifications that will be printed at the candidate’s expense in the voter pamphlet sent to each registered voter. Including a statement costs $400.
