Rose Marie Sloane; Community Volunteer

Rose Marie Sloane, who started a hospital volunteer group and was active with several local organizations, has died at a Rancho Mirage hospital. She was 67.

A former Encino resident, Mrs. Sloane died Tuesday of cancer, said longtime friend Suzanne Adelson.

Born Rose Marie Bucy in Denver, she came to California as a child and graduated from Belmont High School in Los Angeles. Mrs. Sloane served as president of the women’s division of the Encino Chamber of Commerce from 1969 to 1971 and was a longtime member of the chamber. She also belonged to the Los Angeles Spastic Children’s League and the San Fernando Valley Cota Symphony Orchestra.

In 1970, she founded La Carita, a volunteer support group that served the former West Valley Community Hospital in Encino. She and her husband moved to Palm Desert eight years ago.

Mrs. Sloane is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard C. Sloane; sons Richard L. Sloane and Robert Sloane, both of Oxnard; daughters Linda George of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., and Marilyn Look of Simi Valley; and two granddaughters.

Services are pending. Forest Lawn Mortuary, Hollywood Hills, is handling the arrangements.
