LANCASTER : 2 Inmates Injured in Brawl at County Jail
Two men were injured when a fight broke out Friday among 200 inmates at the Mira Loma Jail in Lancaster, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The cause of the noon brawl was unknown, but it quickly became a confrontation between black and Latino inmates in an exercise yard at the facility, Lt. Drew Basey said. The fighting was ended in 30 minutes. Mira Loma Jail, one of 11 county jail facilities, houses about 1,000 prisoners, he said.
Two injured inmates were treated for dislocated shoulders and cuts at a nearby hospital, Sheriff’s Deputy Hal Grant said. Prisoners who sustained minor injuries were treated at the jail, he said.
Inmates involved in the brawl were separated and transferred to other county jail facilities, Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Cannon said. No sheriff’s deputies were injured, Basey said.
