Baldwin Park : Limits on Security Bars

Share

The City Council voted last week to allow exterior security bars on the doors and windows of industrial buildings, but maintained a prohibition against such bars on commercial buildings.

Metal security bars mounted on the outside of walls, windows and glass doors were outlawed in 1987 when the council judged that they cluttered storefronts and gave the impression that Baldwin Park is an unsafe community.

Business and property owners, however, petitioned for the return of the bars, saying they deter burglars and prevent vandalism by glass-cutters.

The zone amendment passed Wednesday will allow exterior bars on property in the industrial area and the use of less-visible interior bars by business owners.
