Sky-Diver Dies as Parachutes Tangle
A 23-year-old San Diego man making his first parachute jump fell to his death Saturday after his chute failed to open properly, sheriff’s deputies said.
Stephen Davis died at 6:58 p.m. in an open area just south of the 13500 block of Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista while sky-diving with the San Diego Air Sports Center, deputies said.
Davis, a records clerk for San Diego Gas & Electric Co., was making his first jump “when his emergency parachute tangled with his main parachute and he fell to the ground,” the San Diego County medical examiner’s office reported.
