Juli Inkster, who entered the final round with an eight-stroke lead, struggled to a three-over-par 74 Sunday and held off Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez by two strokes in the $500,000 Big Apple Classic at New Rochelle, N.Y.

Despite her fourth-round troubles, Inkster completed 72 holes in a tournament-record 273, 11 under par for the 6,109-yard Wykagyl Country Club course.

Lopez, with birdies on the 10th, 13th and 14th holes, shot her second 67 of the tournament finished at 275.

Dale Douglass, playing with his father watching from the gallery, birdied five of the last 10 holes on the way to a final-round 66 and a four-shot victory in the Ameritech Senior Open at Aurora, Ill.

Douglass finished at 15-under 201 to vault past runner-up Jim Dent, who shot 71, and George Archer, the 36-hole leader who came apart with a 73.

Mark Carnevale shot an eight-under-par 64 to win the $800,000 Chattanooga Classic by two strokes and make a runner-up of Ed Dougherty for the second week in a row.

While Dougherty, who set a course record of 62 on Saturday, could muster only a 71 on Sunday, Carnevale put together eight birdies and an eagle on the 11th hole to win $144,000. He finished at 19-under-par 269. Dougherty and Dan Forsman (67) shared second.
