Share

Southwest Airlines reported a 122% increase in second-quarter earnings, largely due to a half-price ticket sale.

The Dallas-based carrier said earnings in the three months ended June 30 were $23.5 million, or 50 cents per share, compared to $10.6 million, or 24 cents, in the same period last year.

Earnings per share after taking into account a 2-for-1 stock split were 25 cents in 1992 versus 12 cents in 1991. The stock split took effect July 15.
