Gary A. Williams, who was accused of attempting to rob Reginald O. Denny during the April 29 attack that left the truck driver critically wounded, was arraigned Wednesday on two additional charges.

Williams, 33, was charged with assaulting and robbing Fidel Lopez, who was pulled from his car and beaten at Florence and Normandie avenues during the rioting that erupted there. Lopez was spray-painted with black paint, and one of his assailants proclaimed: “He’s black now,” according to a police report.

Prosecutors said that Damian Monroe (Football) Williams was the person who spray-painted Lopez, but Gary Williams was charged with participating in the attack. Municipal Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler ordered Williams’ bail raised from $50,000 to $75,000 and set a preliminary hearing on the charges against him for Aug. 13.
