BRENTWOOD : Cars Belonging to Fugitive GOP Donor to Be Auctioned

Share

A Maserati and a Volvo belonging to an elusive Brentwood businessman who contributed $500,000 to the Republican Party while owing $101,000 in child support will be auctioned off today to help pay the debt, the Los Angeles district attorney’s office said.

The businessman, Michael Kojima, has eluded police since May 18, when a warrant was issued for his arrest for failure to pay child support to one of four ex-wives, Chong Kojima of Burbank. A onetime restaurateur, he also owes money to another wife and other creditors.

Kojima came to nationwide attention in March, when his $500,000 donation--the biggest donation to the biggest fund-raiser in American history--netted him a seat at the head table with President Bush. He is now a fugitive. Bail is set at $100,000, believed to be the highest ever in a child support case.

Republican fund-raisers continue to say that they have the right to Kojima’s donation, but have placed the donation in an escrow account pending a court inquiry.
