Coach Art Shell hopes the stalemates will soon be broken in contract talks with the seven Raiders who haven’t reported to training camp.

Tailback Marcus Allen, cornerbacks Lionel Washington and Terry McDaniel, linebacker Winston Moss, all projected as starters this season, are unsigned, as is wide receiver Tim Brown.

Starting defensive ends Greg Townsend and Scott Davis, who are under contract, haven’t reported because they’re trying to renegotiate.

“I want them all here,” Shell said. “They should be here. But to say, ‘OK, if you’re not here by this week or that particular day,’ I won’t do that. They’ll be in here in plenty of time.

“I don’t like to expect things, but hopefully, we’ll get some of them in here soon.”

Shell said the absences of the seven veterans has provided more work for others.

“It’s good work for our young guys,” Shell said. “Look at the linebackers. Winston Moss isn’t here, but we’re taking a good look at Aundray Bruce and Anthony Bell and Mike Jones. And Dan Land and Derrick Hoskins are getting a lot of work at cornerback.”

The Raiders signed cornerbacks Robert McWright and Tracy Sanders and linebacker Basil Proctor.

The New York Jets’ fifth-round draft choice in 1990, McWright tried out in Dallas after being cut by the Jets. Proctor was drafted in the seventh round by the Jets in 1990. Sanders played in the World League last spring.

“We needed some help at defensive back and we needed help at linebacker,” Shell said. “That’s why we signed some defensive backs to work as corners.”

Rookie wide receiver Mike Reddick missed practice because he was having several teeth pulled. The teeth were loosened when he was hit while catching a punt during workouts with the Dallas Cowboys last week.
