Negro League Veterans Get Insurance
Commissioner Fay Vincent said Monday that he wants to offer full health insurance to surviving players from the old Negro leagues.
Vincent appointed major league marketing executive Leonard Coleman and former Negro leagues and major league pitcher Joe Black to serve as co-chairmen of a committee.
Much of the funding for the insurance will come from the sale of memorabilia dealing with the old teams.
Black estimated there are 180 Negro leagues veterans alive.
