LOCAL NOTES : Kish Overtakes Solon for Lead in Race Across America
Rob Kish of Port Orange, Fla., led the men’s division of the Race Across America Monday as the riders reached Texas.
Kish, who has finished second in the race the past two years, passed through time station No. 20 in Canyon, Tex., at 5:37 p.m. PDT.
The town is 1,256 miles into the race, which started Friday in Irvine and ends in Savannah, Ga.
Paul Solon of San Francisco was in second, passing through Canyon 41 minutes after Kish. Solon, who won the race in 1989, has been exchanging the lead with Kish during the past few days.
Two-time defending champion Bob Forney of Denver remains in third, 2:15 behind Kish.
Seana Hogan of San Jose continues to lead the women’s division, which started Thursday. She passed through Canyon at 8:34 p.m.
Tom Rogozinski of Pittsburgh increased his lead on the 38th day of the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace.
Rogozinski finished tied with Richard Westbrook during Monday’s 36.4-mile run from Hiawatha to Elwood, Kan. They finished with a time of 5 hours 8 minutes 50 seconds.
David Warady of Huntington Beach, who is in second place, had a time of of 5:57:37. He is 2:35:59 behind Rogozinski, who led by 27 minutes entering this leg.
