SIMI VALLEY : Piper Says He Won’t Run for Council Seat

Share

Michael W. Piper, who was appointed to the Simi Valley City Council in December, has announced that he will not run for election to the seat this fall.

Piper made his announcement at the City Council meeting late Monday night. He cited unspecified personal and business reasons for his decision.

An 11-year veteran of the city’s Planning Commission, Piper was appointed to the council in December to fill a seat vacated by Councilman Glen McAdoo, who left because of a job transfer. At the time, Piper said he was uncertain whether he would seek election to the post Nov. 3.

Because an incumbent has dropped out of the race, the filing period for Simi Valley council candidates will be extended by five days to Aug. 12, said Myrna Kasch, deputy city clerk.

As of Tuesday, nine people had taken out papers to run for two vacancies on the council: incumbent Councilman Bill Davis; Tim Hodge, an attorney; Barbara Williamson, a bank executive and planning commissioner; Dick Satterlee, an attorney; H. Larry Fick, a retired auto industry manager; Michal Thomas Moore, a local businessman; Steve Silveri, a self-employed computer programmer-analyst; Christopher McGrath; and Dennis Serbick, a local businessman.
