A former South Bay high school math teacher was sentenced to 270 days in custody Tuesday after pleading guilty to sexually molesting three female students.

Gordon David Rae, 37, pleaded guilty last month to one felony count of sexual battery and two misdemeanor counts of child molestation.

Municipal Judge William Woodward also sentenced Rae to five years of probation, but the judge said Rae could serve his custody sentence at a work-furlough facility.

“I am truly sorry for the events that have occurred,” Rae said in a brief statement. “I know I am responsible for the harm to these young ladies.”

Rae taught at Montgomery High School in Otay Mesa for five years. He has resigned his position at the school.

Noting that Rae targeted victims of Asian descent, Deputy Dist. Atty. David Berry said Rae preyed upon the girls. Woodward also ordered Rae to register as a sex offender.
