ANTELOPE VALLEY : Purchase of Parking Lot Land Approved

Share

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday took the first step toward purchasing seven acres of land to provide additional parking for the future Antelope Valley Courthouse.

The land, which will cost about $1.68 million, is next to the courthouse site and north of Avenue M, near the border of the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale. The money will come from funds set aside for the courthouse construction.

Tuesday’s vote, however, only formalized the county’s intention to buy the land from G. & D. Hubbard Living Trust and MGMT Ltd. The money must be allocated at another public hearing before escrow closes on Aug. 31.

The owner of another parcel of nearby land in which the county had previously indicated interest complained Tuesday that he had lost money by holding the land in abeyance. But county officials countered that they had paid the man to hold his land vacant and had purchased part of his property to relocate a county fire station from the courthouse land.
