Kebabs, Cockles Grace Lido’s New Menu; Zorba’s Honors the Grape

Cafe Lido, the supper club in its 11th year on the Balboa Peninsula, has introduced new dinner and lounge menus. Lounge specialties include charbroiled chicken breast salad, fish kebab, fettuccine Alfredo, and cockle clams with Pernod sauce. Prices range from $2.25 to $10.95. For dinner, entrees include pork tenderloin with pear brandy sauce, veal chop sauteed in white wine with butter and fresh sage sauce, linguine with shrimp, chopped clams, and calamari in marinara Pernod sauce, and grilled swordfish with basil butter sauce. Price range for dinners is $11.95 to $17.95. There’s live jazz nightly from 9 p.m. till 1 a.m. (1:30 a.m. on weekends). Dionysus Food and Wine Festival, a centuries-old Greek tradition celebrating the harvest of grapes, comes to Zorba’s on Sunday. Festivities begin at 4 p.m., when complimentary wines will be poured by representatives of Greek wineries. Traditional Greek appetizers also will be served. The first dinner seating will be at 5 p.m., the second at 8. Lamb cooked on a spit will be a featured entree at $16.95; other entrees are $14.95 to $18.95. A complete program of bouzoukee music and folk dancing will follow each dinner sitting. If you think Italian food is synonymous with heavy sauces, consider some of the current specialties at Antonello in South Coast Plaza Village. Fresh fish calabrese is halibut, swordfish, sea bass or orange roughy topped with fresh peeled tomatoes and basil (and served with a fresh vegetable). Escalar, butter fish from Hawaii, is cut thick and finished with fresh herbs. Even pastas go light: ziti al Norma are tossed with a light fresh tomato sauce, eggplant, olives and Romano cheese; penne are dressed with fresh tuna, green peas and tomato. At Prego Ristorante, dine under the stars while listening to live classical music. Every Friday and Saturday evening this summer, from 6:30 to 10:30, guests can sit on the outdoor patio where the Naples String Trio will play and Italian home-style cooking will be served. 18420 Von Karman Ave., Irvine. JW’s in the Anaheim Marriott will showcase wines from the Guenoc Valley Vineyards Friday. Chef John McLaughlin will begin the evening with oyster in a crispy potato crust with light horseradish sauce, served with Guenoc’s 1990 Meritage white. The 1988 Langtry Meritage red will accompany the entree, three roasted game birds. Seating, by reservation only, is between 6 and 10 p.m. $60 per person includes dinner, the wines and the tip. 700 W.
