Weekend golfers on public courses might be used to being forced to wait and wait and wait on the group ahead of them, but the frustration reached another level for Lawrence Werner, a regular player at the nine-hole Oxford Valley course in Levittown, Pa.

Werner was in a fivesome one day following a particularly slow group of inexperienced players. At a par-three hole, Werner’s group thought they were invited to play through, but when they reached the green, one of the slow players allegedly grabbed a club and threatened Werner.

Werner was ready. He pulled a .38-caliber pistol--which he had a license to carry--and pointed it at the man’s head. No shots were fired, but Werner’s group played through.
