Tulsa Tribune to Shut Down: The Oklahoma daily, one of the nation’s few remaining big-city afternoon newspapers, announced it will cease publication Sept. 30. The Tribune and the Tulsa World said they will dissolve a 51-year-old joint operating agreement in a deal worth about $30 million to owners of the Tribune. The joint operating agreement, under which newspapers combine their business and production operations but maintain separate editorial voices, had been scheduled to end in 1996.
