COURTESY REVISITED

Three cheers for Wanda Coleman (“Uncommon Courtesy,” Guest Bites Town, June 21), but I disagree with her premise that a store clerk’s perception of a customer’s femininity, or lack of it, affects service in Los Angeles.

I am a decidedly petite black female, and I’ve been seated near the kitchens of the finest restaurants in town. I’ve not yet walked out on a check, but there have been occasions that when the bill finally arrived, it was yellowed with age. Also, I’ve yet to receive my change in my proffered hand in any establishment in Beverly Hills.

I won’t take on Coleman’s dynamic tactics, but I want L.A. to know that this is not a one-woman war anymore.
