‘Death’ Is Alive: The black-comedy “Death Becomes Her” came to life as it dominated the Friday-through-Sunday box office with about $12.2 million at 1,409 screens for its opening weekend, according to early industry estimates. The Universal release stars Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis and was directed by Robert Zemeckis. In contrast, the opening of 20th Century Fox’s teen comedy “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” was in fifth place with $4.4 million. “Honey, I Blew Up the Kid” took the No. 2 spot with about $6.6 million. In third was “Mo’ Money” with about $6.2 million, followed by “A League of Their Own” with $5.6 million.
