CASTAIC : Station Ordered to Stop Fueling Trucks

Share

A gasoline station near the Golden State Freeway in Castaic that became a truck stop without the necessary permits was ordered Thursday by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to stop refueling trucks.

Neighbors told the supervisors that the formerly “quaint market” and filling station on West Lake Hughes Road had become an unsightly menace. They said children walking to school had to dodge trucks and residents of the area were sickened by diesel fumes.

Station owner Frank Collins said he turned to the truck business after “the gasoline stop went broke.”

“Besides, I don’t know any difference between gasoline and diesel. They are both fossil fuels,” Collins said.

Supervisors unanimously voted against a conditional-use permit that would have allowed truck refueling to continue, but granted Collins’ request that he be allowed to continue selling diesel fuel for two weeks to empty his tanks.
