Point Mugu : Car Overturns on Highway, 3 Injured

Three San Fernando residents were hospitalized Sunday after the driver of their vehicle lost control of his car on the Pacific Coast Highway and swerved across the road, overturning on the center divider several times, authorities said.

The incident occurred at 12:37 p.m. south of Sycamore Road, which is south of Point Mugu, the California Highway Patrol reported.

One of the passengers, 11-year-old Jessica Martinez, was flown by helicopter from the scene to Ventura County Medical Center, where she was in serious condition Sunday evening, the nursing supervisor said.

Two other passengers were hospitalized at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. Monica Perez, 16, was in serious condition, and Norma Lisa Fuentes, 18, was in fair condition late Sunday, the hospital’s nursing supervisor said.

The driver, Jose Medrano, 23, was treated and released at St. John’s.

The Highway Patrol said Medrano was reported to have been traveling north about 80 m.p.h. when he lost control of his car and swerved across two lanes into the center divider, where the vehicle turned over several times, according to officers.
