A 19-year-old Santa Ana man who had been shot died early Sunday at a local hospital after he was discovered by residents of a neighborhood near Centennial Park, Tustin police said.

Issac Barnes collapsed on the front lawn of a home in the 14600 block of Devonshire Avenue in Tustin after the shooting. Barnes died later at UCI Medical Center in Orange, officers said.

Shortly after midnight, a resident reported hearing five gunshots. He said he looked out the window and saw Barnes coming toward his garage and the young man’s car idling in the resident’s driveway.

Barnes collapsed on the resident’s lawn.

The resident, who did not want to be identified, said Barnes did not respond to his questions about who had shot him. He did, however, ask the resident to turn off his car.

“That was the last thing he said,” the resident said.

Witnesses told police they had seen several people on the street Saturday night just before the shooting. They said that after the gunshots were heard, a light-colored, late-model Honda Accord with tinted windows was driven from the scene.

The street where Barnes was shot borders Centennial Park, which has been the site of numerous gang shootings in recent years. Police said they do not know if the slaying was gang-related.
