A 33-year-old Canyon Country man died after he hit his head on a water slide and sank unconscious to the bottom of his back-yard pool, authorities said.
John Owens was swimming with his 11-year-old stepdaughter at his house in the 2800 block of Glasser Avenue when he went down the slide and bumped his head and sank. His stepdaughter tried unsuccessfully to pull Owens off the bottom of the pool, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Barbara Persten said.
The girl then called 911. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy George Guevara responded to the call, dove into the pool and brought Owens to the surface, Persten said.
About that time, Los Angeles County firefighters arrived at the house and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Owens was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he could not be revived, Persten said.
