LONG BEACH : Baby Falls Unseen From Car, Is Pulled to Safety

Share

Several blocks after making a left turn at a busy intersection, motorist Severo Vizcarra noticed his 1-year-old daughter was missing. The baby was tossed into the street during the turn.

Luckily, another motorist at the intersection saw the baby tumble from the Vizcarra car, rolling about four times. Yavarie Madrill, 22, of Paramount jumped from her car, grabbed the baby and, avoiding a swerving auto and truck, carried her to safety.

“The little girl was hanging out the door and crying” when she was tossed from the car during the turn, the woman said after Monday’s incident at Del Amo and Long Beach boulevards.

Vizcarra, 31, had driven several blocks before he noticed his daughter was missing. He said four other children in the car, all younger than 3, couldn’t tell him what had happened to Jamilet.

Paramedics took the baby to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where she was examined, treated for a cut and released, said hospital spokesman Ron Yukelson. Police cited Vizcarra for not having a safety seat for the baby and not having her fastened into a safety device.
