Cypress : Incumbents, 3 Others Seek 2 Council Seats

Three challengers will run against City Council incumbents Cecilia L. Age and Gail H. Kerry in what could be a quiet election this year.

Raymond Wozniak, 34, Steven Bradley, 37, and Harold Lindamood, 55, have filed to run against the incumbents in the Nov. 3 election.

Unlike previous elections, this one finds the city facing few issues. But while the more volatile problems are absent, there are several issues lurking in the background that the candidates are likely to spar over.

A proposal to put a light-rail system through the city has been rejected by the council, but has not been officially voted on by the county, which has the final say.

Another proposal to regulate the parking of large vehicles on city streets has sparked a small controversy. And looming in the distance is the state budget plan that could severely impact how Cypress does business.

Kerry, 45, and Age, 41, have served on the council for the last four years, winning their seats during one of the most tumultuous elections in years as the council grappled with development of the Cypress Business Park. Ironically, the two winners were on opposite sides of the plan. If the incumbents retain their seats they will be ineligible to run again in 1996 because of the city’s two-term limit.

Lindamood, a maintenance test pilot at the Los Alamitos Army Reserve Base, has the most extensive public service record, having served on several boards, including the city traffic commission and board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

Wozniak, a telecommunications technician, recently sat on the Fire Service Task Force. He was also a member of Concerned Citizens of Cypress, a watchdog group that helped defeat several development plans for the Cypress Business Park.

Bradley, a CPA, is a newcomer to the political scene, taking his first stab at public office in Cypress.
