ROUNDUP : Krone Rides Rubiano to Victory in Forego

Rubiano, the favorite in the field of eight older sprinters, surged to a 3 1/4-length victory in the Grade II Forego Handicap on Sunday at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The victory was the fourth in five starts this year for Rubiano, who covered seven furlongs on the muddy track in 1:22 1/5 under Julie Krone to earn $70,080 for Centennial Farm.

Rubiano paid $4, $3.20 and $2.40. Drummond Lane paid $11.40 and $5.20 and Diablo returned $3.

Sky Classic, ridden by Pat Day, won the Grade II Arlington Handicap at Arlington International Racecourse near Chicago.

The 3-10 favorite finished the 1 1/4-mile race in 2:00 3/5 in scoring his fourth victory in six starts this year. It was the fourth consecutive graded stakes victory for the 5-year-old son of Nijinsky II and increased his earnings to $2,340,398.

Sky Classic returned $2.60, $2.40 and $2.10. Duckaroo paid $16.20 and $6. Glity returned $4.

Don Seymour kept Blitzer about five lengths off the pace until the final turn and won the Breeders’ Stakes, third jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, by 3 1/2 lengths at Woodbine racetrack near Toronto.

Blitzer was timed in 2:35 3/5 for the 1 1/2 miles on soft turf.

The Blitzer-Rodin entry paid $8.00, $3.90 and $3.60. Classic Reign paid $3.60 and $2.90.

Benburb, who won the Prince of Wales Stakes and was third in the Queen’s Plate, finished seventh. But the gelding won the $200,000 bonus for owner Steve Stavro for earning the most points in the series.
