Armed Palmdale Man Surrenders

An armed man who had been holed up inside his Palmdale house for about eight hours surrendered to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies early Saturday, authorities said.

Steven Randall, 40, was arrested on suspicion of spousal assault about 1 a.m. and was being held in lieu of $15,000 bail, Deputy Benita Hinojos said.

Deputies surrounded the home in the 38600 block of 16th Street East about 5 p.m. Friday after a 911 operator received a call and “heard a child screaming in the background,” Hinojos said.

Randall’s wife, who had bruises on her arms and face, escaped with a child from the house shortly afterward. Randall apparently had been distraught over family problems and had been drinking when he armed himself, Hinojos said.

A sheriff’s special weapons team was called to the house but left around midnight after not hearing from the man for several hours, Hinojos said.

The remaining deputies “figured he was probably passed out inside and just waited him out,” Hinojos said. “He just walked out and gave himself up.”
