VENTURA : Wind-Toppled Tree Backs Up Traffic
Wind toppled a 60-foot-tall tree onto southbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway in Ventura Monday, backing up traffic for about a half-mile.
In a separate incident, a branch from a eucalyptus tree fell onto a car parked near the county Government Center, causing minor damage to the car.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
The tree near the freeway was uprooted about noon and fell onto the road just north of Telephone Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Cars were forced to slow and merge into one lane.
CHP officials said they did not know if the fallen tree was also a eucalyptus.
An operator at the helm of a large crane pulled the tree from the roadway and helped state transportation workers cut it up and cart it away.
