A San Carlos bill collector suspected of being the “room for rent” rapist was charged Thursday with attacking five more women.

Kurt Newman, 33, pleaded not guilty to 11 new charges. Newman has already been charged with 34 felony counts in attacks on 10 other women throughout the county.

Municipal Judge Charles L. Patrick set a preliminary hearing for Sept. 10. Newman is being held in lieu of $1-million bail.

The new charges include four counts of rape, two counts of rape with a foreign object, two counts of forced oral copulation, one count of kidnaping and two counts of residential burglary. Four of the victims were attacked at gunpoint, while the fifth was confronted with a knife.

In two of the attacks, Newman allegedly inquired about a room for rent and then attacked the women as they answered the door. Another woman was confronted at poolside with a gun and forced back to her apartment, where she was sexually assaulted.

In another attack, similar to two others that Newman has already been charged with, a woman was abducted at gunpoint and forced to drive to a secluded spot near Mission Gorge Road, where she was sexually assaulted.

In the final incident, Newman allegedly entered a woman’s home through an unlocked door and sexually assaulted her.

In all, 14 women were sexually assaulted in attacks dating back to 1988. One other woman scared off the attacker.
