PANORAMA CITY : Man Gets Life Term in Deaths of Couple
A Panorama City man was sentenced to life without possibility of parole Thursday for shooting to death a couple from his second-story apartment as their 8-year-old daughter watched.
Pedro Antonio Pacheco, 25, was sentenced by Van Nuys Superior Court Judge John Fisher for the January, 1991, slayings of Oscar Ernesto Sanchez, 33, and his wife, Coralia Angelica Duran Sanchez, 30.
A jury in May convicted Pacheco of both murders.
Witnesses said Pacheco used a rifle to kill the Sanchezes as the couple waited in their pickup truck for the security gate to open at the apartment complex where they and Pacheco lived.
The couple’s daughter, Jeimy, who was with her parents, was not hurt.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Lea Purwin D’Agostino said Pacheco killed the couple because of a dispute over unpaid bills when they all shared an apartment a few months earlier.
