CASTAIC : 2 Swimming Areas Closed Because of Bacteria Level
Two swimming areas at Castaic Lake north of Santa Clarita have again been closed because the amount of human waste bacteria in the water is expected to reach levels considered harmful to swimmers, Los Angeles County Officials said Friday.
The north and south beaches were closed Thursday for an indefinite period after being reopened last week, said Mike Coash, a supervising lifeguard at Castaic Lake. Two other beaches, Hobie Beach and Paradise Cove, were closed Aug. 7 because of high bacteria counts.
The closure of beaches on the west side of the lake’s lower portion, which attract as many as 700,000 swimmers annually, is a precautionary measure. The county-operated, state-owned facility will remain open for boating, fishing, water skiing and windsurfing.
