COUNTYWIDE : Pair Seriously Hurt in 100-Foot Plunge Down Steep Canyon

Share

A man and a woman were seriously injured Monday when their car plunged 100 feet down a canyon from a winding road in the Santa Monica Mountains just north of the Los Angeles County line.

The pair, whose identities were not available late Monday, were airlifted to the trauma center at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard.

A witness at the scene said the woman apparently injured her leg and the man suffered back injuries. Ventura County fire officials said the car hurtled off Deer Creek Road near Pacific View Road three miles north of Pacific Coast Highway about 5:55 p.m.

Because of the steepness of the cliff, it took rescuers about two hours to rappel down to the injured pair, load them into gurneys and haul them back up, fire officials said.
