OUTLOOK

Sonora ended a two-year league losing streak with a 19-11 victory over Fullerton last season. In that game, Knowles threw for two touchdowns. Knowles, a second-team all-league selection, passed for 1,430 yards as a junior but also threw 16 interceptions. “I don’t think he got a lot of coaching the past two years,” said Takkinen, the first-year coach. “He couldn’t read defenses. Now, I think he’s a Division I prospect. He’s got a strong arm, a 4.2 grade-point average, and he’s the school’s ASB president.” Takkinen is the former physical education department chairman at University, where he turned down the head wrestling and softball coaching positions for the Sonora job.
