ACLU Nets $100,000 at Benefit

ACLU of Southern California netted $100,000 at its Aug. 21 gala honoring music industry pioneer Ed Bennett and L.A. Mayor Tom Bradley. Jackson Browne and Billy Crystal presented the awards. ACLU executive director Ramona Ripston and president Danny Goldberg greeted the 500 guests at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Tracy Chapman provided the evening’s entertainment.

Starlight Foundation’s premiere of the animated film “Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland” on Aug. 15 raised $25,000. The foundation grants wishes, entertainment and recreational activities for seriously ill children. Melissa Manchester and Mickey Rooney were among the celebrities who attended the event at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

Friends of Wolf Mountain Sanctuary held their first fund-raiser Aug. 9 at the home of Robert Gentino. The $1,000 raised will help care for wolves at Tonya Carloni’s Wolf Mountain Sanctuary in Lucerne Valley.

USC Law Center has announced a $100,000 gift from the Joseph Drown Foundation. The money will help graduates working in the public sector to repay their educational loans and encourage careers in public service.
