San Diego : Navarro Wins Labor Endorsement

Share

San Diego County’s largest labor organization announced Monday it will endorse mayoral candidate Peter Navarro.

The San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council, with a membership of more than 108,000, weighed in on Navarro’s side primarily because of his opposition to the proposed free-trade pact between Canada, Mexico and the United States.

“I oppose the free-trade agreement in its present form because the continuation of poverty-level wages and ‘Love Canal’-style environmental regulations in Mexico mean only that San Diego is going to be exporting good jobs to Mexico and importing pollution,” Navarro said.

Joe Francis, head of the labor council, said Navarro’s opponent in the race for mayor of San Diego, Susan Golding, supports the free-trade agreement “without consideration for working people in the U.S. and Mexico and without concern for the environmental problems that could be created.”
