TUJUNGA : Abandoned Baby in Good Condition

Share

A newborn baby boy abandoned in a bag at a Tujunga intersection was listed in good condition Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

A woman discovered the baby Wednesday at 8 p.m. on the southwest corner of Commerce Avenue and Valmont Street, Sgt. Gene Fretheim said. The woman thought the bag contained aluminum cans until the baby moved and cried, he said.

Closer inspection revealed the infant, wrapped in blankets and dressed in socks, Fretheim said. Authorities believe the baby, of Latino appearance, was only a few hours old at the time of his discovery.

The woman took the baby to her nearby apartment and called police, Fretheim said.

The baby was listed in good condition at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, said Ardis Mewborne, an administrative supervisor.

Authorities were searching for the infant’s mother, Fretheim said.
