HUNTINGTON BEACH : Council Approves Golf Course Idea

Share

City Council members have approved the idea of a nine-hole, par-three golf course to be developed on the brushy hillside of undeveloped Bartlett Park.

But a couple of obstacles will have to be cleared. First, the city needs to find a developer who is willing to build not only the course but also develop and maintain two small neighborhood parks at the site.

And second, voters will have to give their approval before a golf course can be built on city-owned parkland.

Bartlett Park contains about 30 acres and is between Adams and Yorktown avenues, east of Beach Boulevard. It includes the Newland House Museum and Newland Barn.

About half the park is on a bluff and the other half serves as a catch basin for flood control. The golf course would be on 12 acres of hilly area.

Community Services Director Ron Hagan said he will now offer the proposal to private developers to see if it is something they want to do.
