Gov. Pete Wilson on Friday signed a school-funding bill the Legislature approved after being called back for a special session.

Wilson’s signature reallocates $485 million for schools, including about $425 million that the governor said he had to remove from the state budget bill last week because of technical flaws.

Wilson had contended schools could receive the money and lawmakers could correct the errors when they started the 1993 session in December. But state schools chief Bill Honig said Wilson’s line-item veto of the funds from the budget left him with no authority to distribute the money.

It was approved Wednesday in the Senate, 35-0, and 53-0 in the Assembly.
