A Compton jury sentenced a South-Central Los Angeles man Monday to life in prison without parole Monday for his role in a gang attack last summer that left one teen-ager dead and her aunt paralyzed from the neck down.

Traveon Martin, 22, of Los Angeles was sentenced in Los Angeles County Superior Court after a 10-week trial in which he was convicted of murder with special circumstances, rape and child molestation, said Deputy Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Kevin McCormick.

Martin and a friend, Brian Keith Scott, were accused of raping 13-year-old LaTasha Johnson and her 23-year-old aunt, and sexually assaulting Johnson’s 14-year-old sister.

Martin then shot and killed Johnson, wounded her sister and fired a shot that left the aunt paralyzed. The pair escaped with $150.

Scott, also convicted of murder, rape and attempted murder, is to be sentenced in two weeks, McCormick said.
