PASADENA : Three More Medflies Found in Quarantine Area
Three more crop-eating Mediterranean fruit flies have been found near a quarantined area where eight were reported recently, the county agricultural commissioner said Wednesday.
The male insects were found Tuesday in a fig tree in the 3100 block of Doyne Road, said Commissioner Leon Spaugy. Crews carrying backpack sprayers will treat a 220-yard radius around the tree with the pesticide malathion, he said.
The first insect of the current Medfly infestation was found Sept. 8, on Coronet Avenue in Pasadena.
