A local designer of trendy and upscale apparel for little girls is offering some excellent buys in its Tarzana showroom.

The Dana Brooke showroom designs many private-label lines, and you’d probably recognize many of them. These are sophisticated clothes for girls ranging from newborn to 10 years old.

I can’t imagine a more charming assortment of clothes for little ones. Baby doll dresses abound in exciting prints of rayon, georgette or chiffon, even a few knits. You might expect to pay $50 or more for these, but the price is $25. The size range is 2 to 10.

The rompers with matching hats are charming in sophisticated patterns in jersey. In sizes 6 months to 4 years, the romper is $20, the hat $8. This smashing outfit would retail for about $50.

Owner Susan Roberson has a special flair for designing jackets. Cotton duck jackets come in black, white or pink with lace collars (and matching hankies). The jackets, which could captivate mother and daughter, are $30 in sizes 2 to 10. A plaid blazer, made from a hot new rayon/polyester blend fabric that looks like a wool weave, has a drop-waist circle skirt to match. The outfit would retail for $90-$110, but by shopping at the source, the price is $55.

Sometimes even mothers will find something here. One example is a revitalization of a vintage man’s jacket (a Brooks Brothers classic was the showroom sample) with whimsical patches of fabric. The price was a reasonable $70 for a most unusual jacket.

This is a delightful little spot in an industrial complex. In the rear of the showroom is the cutting room where Susan and Gene Roberson design with their daughter, Dana Brooke, now 25, with a toddler of her own.
