San Gabriel : Karaoke Club Penalized

Share

The City Council voted unanimously last week to uphold penalties imposed last month on a karaoke club for violating the terms of its city license.

The council Tuesday sustained a five-day closure of the club, Music Fantasy, for allowing alcohol to be served without a city license and for installing a lock on the door of one of the private rooms.

The council also agreed with City Administrator P. Michael Paules that the club must abide by the stricter conditions adopted last month for such businesses, where patrons make videotapes of themselves singing with prerecorded background music.

Chung-Kung Moh, owner of the club at 205 S. San Gabriel Blvd., blamed negligent employees for allowing alcohol to be served at the business. He said a lock on the door to one of the private rooms was installed by mistake.

Moh said he would not contest the council’s decision but that he might be forced out of business. Vice Mayor James Castaneda said Police Chief David A. Lawton had recommended revoking Moh’s special-use permit, which would have been far more severe than the penalty levied.
