Terrific double feature on AMC: Richard Fleischer’s 1949 The Clay Pigeon (Monday at 4:15 a.m., again at 9 a.m.), in which Bill Williams plays a seaman attempting to clear his name of treason and of responsibility in the death of a friend; and the 1950 D.O.A. (Monday at 10:30 a.m., again on Tuesday at 7 a.m.), a film noir classic in which Edmond O’Brien, lethally poisoned, has but a short period to solve his own mysterious murder.
Honkytonk Man (KCOP Tuesday at 10 a.m.) is one of Clint Eastwood’s best. Taking a breather from action films, Eastwood directs himself as an ailing, down-and-out, Depression-era country singer determined to make it to the Grand Ole Opry before he dies.
The Divorce of Lady X (AMC Wednesday at 10 a.m.) An elegant 1938 Alexander Korda romantic comedy, a pre-”Wuthering Heights” teaming of Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier.
