San Fernando’s Garcia Stops 7-Foot White in 2nd Round
World heavyweight contender Alex Garcia of San Fernando made short work of Mike (The Giant) White on Tuesday night in a nationally televised bout at El Paso County Coliseum, scoring a technical knockout in the second round before 750.
Garcia (26-1, 21 knockouts), ranked eighth by the World Boxing Council, clubbed the 7-foot, 284-pound White to the canvas with a left hook and a follow-up right about 10 seconds before the end of the first round.
White appeared unsure of the location of his corner when the bell rang ending the round. Garcia, who weighed in at 220, quickly pounced on the still-groggy White at the beginning of the second round. The bout, seen on USA network’s Tuesday Night Fights, was stopped 51 seconds into the round.
“I didn’t think it would be that quick,” Garcia said. “I had a feeling he’d come out throwing punches.”
