Be Bright and Baby Your Baby Affordably

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

If you’ve noticed what babies are wearing nowadays, you might think they’re growing up too fast.

“Infant fashions have an almost grown-up look. There’s a lot of painted clothing, leggings and oversized shirts,” said Tammy Peloso, owner of the infant consignment shop Baby on a Budget in Orange.

Although you can still find traditional tailored baby clothing, especially in layette sets, infant wear has seen a lot of changes in recent years.

“People are moving toward bright colors for infants 6 months on up. Purple is really popular,” said Dee Dee VanHouse, administrative assistant at the Anaheim corporate office of Bergstroms Childrens Stores.

Because of the sluggish economy, infant wear consignment and resale shops are seeing a surge in business, said Sue Young, co-owner of Young Seconds in Corona del Mar. “We’ve had an incredible increase in business this year. Infants outgrow things so fast that people are now seeing consignment shops as offering a wise financial alternative.”
