A Notable Development

Propelled by the No. 7 single “People Everyday,” the Atlanta-based alternative rap group Arrested Development has a hit album, “3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of . . .,” that climbed to No. 6 and should crack the Southern California Top 5. It also heads the R&B; and rap charts.

Apparently Annie Lennox’s appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards boosted Southern California sales of her album “Diva,” No. 31 nationally but No. 2 here. On the other hand, Billy Ray Cyrus isn’t as strong here as he is nationally, his “Some Gave All” slipping to No. 9.

The exclusive Southern California charts are prepared by The Times from information supplied by SoundScan Inc., the music industry’s leading sales-reporting service.
