Burbank Employees May Get Metrolink Discount
The Burbank City Council is scheduled to vote tonight on a plan to offer city employees discounts on Metrolink train fares when service begins next month.
An estimated 150 city employees live in areas that will be served by the diesel commuter trains, which go into service Oct. 26. The proposed discount would allow employees to travel for half price, a maximum of about $70 a month.
The discount would be in effect for a nine-month trial period, after which the city would review its popularity and feasibility. The discount would cost the city $20,000 or less, according to a report presented to the council by Mark Yamarone, assistant transportation planner.
“The city has a vested interest in supporting commuter rail,” wrote Yamarone, who noted that the city has subsidized the rail line.
